Heuris MPEG Power Professional

You may want to download these Heuris SVCD templates. Copy them into the Template folder in the Heuris directory. The start up Heuris and right click in the main window..

Select Insert task

Select the avs file you've just created and load it by pressing the "..." button. Then chose the profile that matches your needs: SVCD-NTSC rff for movies that contain incorrect rff flags, SVCD-NTSC for progressive NTSC movies and SVCD-PAL for PAL movies. Note that Heuris can't set the 3:2 pulldown flag, therefore you have to select 29.97fps in FlaskMpeg in any case. After choosing the right profile press Edit Settings.

To make a VCD simply select a VCD profile.

Also don't forget to set a Destination File Name.

Here you can change the Bit Rate. Once again this is fully up to you since should I give recommendations I'd have 98% of my readers that would complain, 49 would think my settings are too high, 49% would think my settings are too low and the rest simply wouldn't care. Just let me remind you that VBR means that it's not completely determinable whereas you can calculate the size your movie will have if you chose CBR. The calculations are always the same: Total bitrate/s (audio bitrate/s + video bitrate/s) * movie length in seconds = size.

Here you can set some other interesting settings. The settings for NTSC movies should be ok, however if you're dealing with PAL movies you may want to enable the Deinterlacer (Check If not detected, assume fields are: Interlaced in the Field preparation settings) if the movie is indeed interlaced. But the profiles should work in most cases, only change something if it looks bad.

If you're all done close the Encode Definition window by pressing OK, then press the encode button.

It's the rightmost button in this picture!

After a long time you'll want to encode the audio separately, by switching to the bbMPEG plugin in FlaskMpeg and in it's settings only check encode audio. BTW: Heuris encodes audio after video so we can't frameserve directly from FlaskMpeg since it only can serve the same stuff once. We could use a DirectShowSource as described in IEATLINT's guide but that could lead to disastrous results if you use FlaskMpeg's DVD mode since most movies have the studio logo in another vob id and using the IFO mode will skip that but the DirectShowSource won't know that and deliver all that's there.
